Research Services
Supporting Research and Innovation Activities at BUC:
The mandate of the technology transfer office (TTO) is to cooperate with scientists and researchers at different research and innovation (RI) stages:
- Early RI stage: TTO offers guidance for scientists and researchers to select specific fields, areas, and topics that tackle national societal challenges and satisfy national, regional, and international industry/business needs to achieve demand-driven research. Prior Art Search will be provided by the TISC team.
- Later RI stages: TTO offers links to industry and business sectors and entities for implementing the research outcomes on a real industry and business scale (i.e. entrepreneurship), producing business models, prototypes, and/or final products.
TICO
Technology, Innovation, Commercialization Office (TICO)
TICO (Technology, Innovation, Commercialization Office) motivates the role of research and innovation inside the university and connects the university with the private sector to find innovative and technological solutions for industrial problems and issues related to the demands. TICO supports innovation and technology in areas that empower entrepreneurship and establish R&D projects.
Activities
- Establish a university (internal) guideline for academic researchers.
- Provide training sessions for academic staff and researchers.
- Construct a new Database for the potential local and international fundraising opportunities.
- Build a database for technologies, knowledge, and patents available at the University based on a specific survey, and classify these knowledge, innovations, and patents.
- Follow up for the marketing and promotional activities of the patents, innovations, and R&D outcomes for the beneficiaries.
- Work on finding innovations, support, and care of the innovators (training, guidance, networking, marketing, funding…).
- Assist in developing the prototypes and half-manufactured models.
- Encourage effective connection between applied research and the needs of the local community.
- Promote the importance of patents and intellectual property.
- Provide means of search to persons who plan to submit new researches in different fields.
- Assist in the drafting of the patent application and clarify the procedures required to obtain a patent.
- Guide in resolving any technological/technical/industrial problem concerning patent registered patents issued / patent fallen in the public domain/ideas of inventors (databases).
- Provide training on IP to academic staff, researchers, and entrepreneurs; Creating a twinning between the innovative technological center for prototypes and the entrepreneurship center where it combines all the expertise.
- Encourage entrepreneurship culture inside the university by creating investment opportunities based on local technologies.
GICO
Grants and International Cooperation Office (GICO):
The GICO Unit offers guidance for researchers from different fields and sectors in finding possible funding opportunities for their research ideas.
GICO also provides all kinds of pre-award services that include: Define potential funding local and international opportunities for international research projects; finding the appropriate partners; proposal writing; consortium establishment; budget preparation; submission; contract negotiation and other related activities. On the other hand, the GICO unit will provide post-award services for university professors, researchers, and entrepreneurs. These services will be offered to projects teams since the start date of the granted project and will continue throughout the whole project duration until the approval of the final report (periodical technical & financial reports; implementation of project activities; preparation of supporting documents for donors; monitoring the handover of deliverables and projects progress.
Expected Outcomes:
- University (internal) Guideline for Academic Researchers;
- Training sessions for academic staff and researchers;
- Periodic announcements (circular emails, BUC-TICO website) of the available funding opportunities;
- New Database of the potential local and international fundraising opportunities;
The new GICO will work closely with different national and international organizations, associations, and future frameworks programs (i.e. Horizon 2020, Erasmus Plus) that promote research and education. The Unit has a database of donors, partners and researchers, categorized (national-international, themes, priority). GICO will cooperate and respond to the analytical studies generated by the University Research &Innovation Committee (BRIC).
TISC
Technology Innovation Support Center (TISC):
