Dr Amr Ezzat Salama is a Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities and a Professor of Structural Engineering at Helwan University, Egypt. Dr Amr is the Chairman of the Management Engineering Society and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the President of the Executive Bureau of the 57357 Foundation of the Children’s Cancer Hospital. Additionally, Dr Amr is the Chairman of the Council of Housing and Building of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.
Dr Amr was previously the Counselor of the American University in Cairo (AUC), where he served as the liaison between the Egyptian Authorities and the AUC Administration. Dr Amr established and maintained communication with Egyptian ministries, Egyptian universities, and the Supreme Council of Universities. In developing these relationships within the AUC community, Dr Amr was able to garner support for the successful completion of the accreditation process for all AUC academic degrees.
Dr Amr has also served as the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Technology of Egypt as well as a member of the Shura Council (in the upper house of the parliament of Egypt) and head of its housing committee. Further, Dr Amr served as Chairman of the Housing and Building National Research Center; President of Helwan University; and a Professor of Civil Engineering and Chair of the University’s Center for Technology Development.
For his commendable work in the field, Dr Amr received the Excellence Award in 2006 and the State Award for Science in Engineering Science in 2012. Dr Amr holds a PhD in Structural Engineering from Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh University in the United Kingdom, a Master’s in Maritime Civil Engineering from Manchester, United Kingdom, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Cairo University.
