Al-Nazla village and the Caricature Museum: A cultural Trip to Tunis Village.

On the 13th of May, 2022, the BUC School of Engineering- Architecture Department arranged a cultural trip to the Caricature Museum in Tunis Village- Fayoum city.

The one-day trip was divided into two main events: a visit to the pottery area in Al-Nazlah village and a stop at the Nazlah revival project. The trip became richer and more informative with the companionship of the architect, Hamdy Elsetouhy, the museum design consultant and expert at the International Council on Monuments and Heritage ICOMOS. Elsetouhy is the designer of the project “Revival and Development of the Area of Potters’ Workshops in Nazla”, winner of the second prize of the first category of the International Federation For UIA (International Union of Architects,) and the Baku Heritage Award in Azerbaijan. His project was selected at the Barbara Biennale in Italy as one of the 40 best projects in the world.

The second part of the trip consisted of a fascinating discussion with the artist, Ibrahim Abla at Tunis village at the Fayoum art center. The discussion involved demonstrating a variety of artworks.

The trip was coordinated and supervised by Prof. Mona Aggour, responsible for the vernacular architecture course, with the participation of Dr. Duha Saeed, a faculty member in the architecture program, Aya Magdy, and Karim Al-Hadary.
